Recommended Level

Advanced preferred, especially for Maratua channel and current sites. Some easier sites may suit less experienced divers with guidance.

Visibility

Usually 10–30 metres depending on island, season, sea state and local conditions.

Water Temperature

Usually 27–30°C. A 3mm wetsuit is generally suitable for many divers.

Sangalaki Manta Sites

Manta-focused sites where cleaning and feeding behaviour depend on plankton, season and local conditions. Sightings are possible, not guaranteed.

Kakaban Wall

A wall dive with reef life and a strong contrast to the jellyfish lake experience above the surface.

Kakaban Jellyfish Lake

A snorkeling and nature highlight with harmless jellyfish. It is usually not treated as a scuba dive.

Maratua Channel / The Pass

An advanced current site with barracuda, sharks, rays and schooling fish potential. Best suited to experienced divers.

Derawan Jetty

A macro and structure site with good night dive potential, useful for smaller subjects and photography variety.

Samama Island Sites
