Anilao, Philippines – Macro Diving, Critters & Blackwater Adventures
A world-class macro diving destination just a few hours from Manila, perfect for underwater photographers, critter hunters and divers who love slow, detailed exploration.
Anilao is where the underwater world starts to reveal its secrets one tiny creature at a time. At first glance, the volcanic slopes and sandy seabeds may seem simple. Then your guide points into the sand and the whole world changes: a camouflaged frogfish, a glowing nudibranch, a shrimp hiding in coral, or an octopus changing shape before your eyes.

Why Dive Anilao?
Just a few hours from Manila, Anilao has become one of Asia’s most beloved destinations for macro photographers and divers who enjoy the art of looking closer. Days begin with coffee by the sea and end with sunsets over Batangas Bay. Underwater, every dive can bring a new surprise: frogfish, nudibranchs, seahorses, pipefish, octopus, shrimps, crabs and other rare macro subjects.
For Coral Triangle Expeditions, Anilao is selected for its world-class macro potential, easy access from Manila and excellent value for photography-focused small groups.

Anilao rewards patient divers. This is not a destination to rush through. The best moments often happen when you slow down, look closer and allow an experienced local guide to reveal the hidden life on the sand, rubble, reef slopes and coral gardens.
Macro & Super-Macro Photography

Underwater Photography in Anilao
Anilao is one of the strongest macro photography destinations in the Philippines. A macro lens is strongly recommended. A focus light, snoot and wet diopter are useful for photographers who want to work with tiny subjects and super-macro opportunities. Wide-angle is secondary, but still useful on selected reef sites such as Cathedral Rock, Sombrero Island and Twin Rocks.
For photography-focused groups, the best Anilao experience comes from slow, careful diving, patient guiding and repeat visits to productive sites. Instead of trying to cover everything quickly, Coral Triangle Expeditions can structure the programme around subject variety, camera time, night dives and optional blackwater opportunities.

For Non-Diving Companions
Anilao can also work well for non-diving companions who enjoy a quiet coastal resort atmosphere. Activities may include snorkeling, kayaking, spa time, sunset dinners, coastal viewpoints and short Batangas excursions. This is not a nightlife destination; it is best for guests who enjoy a relaxed sea-view escape while divers focus on the underwater world.

How to Get to Anilao
Most international guests fly into Manila International Airport. From Manila, Anilao / Mabini is reached by private road transfer, usually around 2.5 to 4 hours depending on traffic. This easy access makes Anilao one of the most convenient macro diving destinations in the Philippines.
