Mabul, Kapalai & Sipadan Gateway, Malaysia – Macro, Turtles, Sharks & Legendary Wall Diving

A Malaysian dive journey combining macro life around Mabul and Kapalai with the chance to dive one of the world’s most legendary wall and big-fish destinations: Sipadan.

Mabul and Kapalai are the gateway to Sipadan, a name that many divers dream about long before they arrive in Malaysia.

Around Mabul and Kapalai, patient photographers search for frogfish, nudibranchs, mandarin fish, crustaceans and small macro subjects.

Then Sipadan changes the scale completely: dramatic walls, turtles, reef sharks, barracuda schools and powerful blue-water memories.

Why Dive Mabul, Kapalai & Sipadan?

Mabul, Kapalai and Semporna form the main gateway to Sipadan, one of the most famous dive names in the world. The region offers a rare combination: macro and muck-style diving around the resorts, overwater tropical atmosphere, and permit-based access to Sipadan’s dramatic walls and big-fish action.

Mabul and Kapalai reward slow, patient divers with frogfish, nudibranchs, mandarin fish, crustaceans and other small subjects. Sipadan is different: turtles, reef sharks, schooling fish, barracuda vortex potential, steep walls and true wide-angle drama.

For Coral Triangle Expeditions, this destination is selected because it combines two strong styles in one journey: macro photography around Mabul / Kapalai and iconic wall and big-fish diving at Sipadan.
