Route & itinerary
Open each section to explore the programme and its diving areas. Day-by-day plans are indicative; the captain may adjust stops and timing for conditions, safety and park access. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
Raja Ampat Aggressor explores the areas below on this 12-night expedition from Bitung to Berau. These sections describe the route’s settings and character; they do not assign unconfirmed stops to particular days.
Programme outline
Embark in Bitung for the Lembeh, North Sulawesi & Derawan itinerary. The captain selects the daily dive programme according to sea conditions and crossing time.
The voyage finishes in Berau. Check the confirmed boarding, transfer and final diving schedule when arranging onward travel.
Lembeh and North Sulawesi
Lembeh changes the pace of a multi-region expedition. The focus moves from covering a reef to inspecting a small area carefully, often over dark sand and scattered structures. Routes extending through North Sulawesi can also include reef and island diving, so the strait is one chapter of a broader crossing rather than a description of every dive.
Derawan and the Maratua region
This East Kalimantan itinerary is geographically separate from Raja Ampat, even when the vessel’s name includes Raja Ampat. The route centres on the Derawan region and its island reef environments. Compare the actual ports and programme rather than the boat’s name when choosing flights or a pre-cruise stay.
Life between the dives
Site briefings, equipment preparation and surface intervals give each diving day its rhythm. On a crossing, some of that time is spent travelling between island groups; a sailing day is not automatically a full diving day. The final dive schedule is coordinated with the return passage and the onward travel arrangements for the selected departure.

Underwater highlights & dive areas
The profiles below explain the underwater environments and the representative sites associated with this route. Site access and the daily selection follow the cruise programme.
Lembeh and North Sulawesi
Muck diving rewards attention to camouflage and behaviour. Frogfish, ghost pipefish, unusual octopus species and nudibranchs are among the subjects discussed in the operator programmes. A site that looks quiet from the surface can support a rich small-animal habitat. Seeing fewer metres of reef can produce a more memorable dive than swimming quickly past the details.
Derawan and the Maratua region
Reef slopes, walls and current-influenced passages create a varied underwater setting. Individual islands have different attractions, and any manta, turtle or lake excursion belongs to the selected programme. A regional cruise offers an opportunity to explore these contrasts without turning a list of possible encounters into a guarantee.
Conditions and experience
Buoyancy and fin control matter over fine sediment. Conditions differ between sheltered critter sites, open reefs and the crossings connecting them.
Channels and exposed reefs require attention to current. A shallow island activity may have different conditions and participation requirements from the day’s scuba dives.
Underwater photography
Macro lenses, a focus light and careful strobe positioning suit this environment. Leave space around the subject, avoid stirring sediment and let the guide manage turns.
A flexible wide-angle setup suits reef scenes and larger animals. Pack a separate topside option for island scenery and excursions.
