Overview

Papua Explorers is located on the southern coast of Gam Island in the Dampier Strait, close to Cape Kri, Blue Magic, Manta Sandy and other signature Raja Ampat sites.

The eco resort uses traditional Papuan construction for spacious overwater bungalows, an overwater restaurant, dive centre, camera room, spa and sundeck.

Its diver package combines full board, three guided boat dives and one house-reef sunset or night dive per operating day, while the non-diver package allows à-la-carte diving or snorkeling.

About Papua Explorers Dive Resort

Dining and meal plans

Both diver and non-diver packages include full-board international buffet meals, drinking water, tea, coffee and afternoon snacks.

Alcoholic and soft drinks are paid at the resort.

Beyond diving

The non-diver package includes full board and a complimentary Fam/Penemu day trip for stays of at least seven nights; boat snorkeling and dives are added separately.

Bird-of-paradise walks, Wayag, Batanta, Passage, Mayalibit Bay, spa and romantic dinners are available according to conditions.

Getting there

Scheduled resort-boat transfers operate Wednesday and Sunday between Sorong and the resort.

The 2027 return transfer is €220 per adult. Guests should arrive in Sorong by the stated cutoff and book departing flights after the return timing; group transfer pricing applies from eight guests.

Dives per day

Diver package: three guided boat dives plus one house-reef sunset or night dive per operating day, up to four dives

Dive programme

More than 50 dive sites are reached from the resort, with many Dampier Strait highlights 10–30 minutes away by boat.

Dive boats carry a maximum of six divers with two guides, creating typical guide ratios between 1:2 and 1:4 depending on group structure.

The diver package includes three guided boat dives and house-reef dives up to four dives daily; non-diver guests can add à-la-carte dives or snorkeling sessions.

Nitrox

Nitrox fills are included free of charge for certified Nitrox divers.

House reef

Unguided house-reef snorkeling is complimentary. Guided house-reef sunset or night dives are included within the diver package up to the daily dive limit.

Photography facilities

A dedicated camera room and camera rinse tank are available at the dive centre.

Small groups are organised by experience and interests such as photography; private guides can sometimes be arranged on site but are not guaranteed in advance.

Mandatory local fees

These locally collected fees apply automatically when the corresponding diving activity takes place. They are shown for transparency and are not optional selections.

Superior Water Bungalows are 55 m² for one or two guests; Deluxe Water Bungalows are 72 m² and can sleep up to three.

All are overwater with ensuite hot-water bathrooms, private veranda, direct sea access, fan, mosquito net, work desk, seating, coffee and tea facilities, safe and 24-hour electricity.
