Overview

Virgin Cocoa is a quiet private island of roughly eight hectares at the southern end of Maratua Atoll, connected to Nunukan by a long overwater jetty.

Eighteen 70 m² beachfront bungalows face either the lagoon sunsets or neighbouring Nunukan, supported by a pool, spa, yoga, restaurant and Extra Divers centre.

The dive programme combines the house reef with Maratua, Kakaban, Sangalaki, Big Fish Country and other half- or full-day excursions.

Dining and meal plans

Half board includes breakfast with fresh juice, tea and coffee plus a three-course set dinner.

Full board adds lunch; drinking water is included with meals and vegetarian or vegan menus are available.

Beyond diving

Two complimentary yoga sessions are normally offered daily, alongside pool time, beach relaxation and the spa.

Guests can walk the long jetty to Nunukan, join snorkeling and take island excursions subject to conditions.

Getting there

Scheduled arrivals are Saturday and Wednesday, with departures Friday and Tuesday.

The Berau–Virgin Cocoa boat takes about three hours. Public 2027 transfer is €143 per person one way plus the airport–harbour taxi; private or Maratua-airport transfers are available.

Published 2027 supplements cover Sangalaki and Kakaban, South Maratua, Big Fish Country, Karang Muaras, Shark City, night diving and private guides.

The exact mix is built around certification, experience, conditions and minimum participation.

Nitrox

Nitrox is free for licensed Nitrox divers.

House reef

A substantial house reef is accessed from the resort's private jetty, with guided diving and local boat support.

Photography facilities

The dive centre provides equipment storage, drying and dedicated rinse areas.

Private guides can be requested for a maximum of two divers; macro and wide-angle sites are available across the atoll.

Virgin Cocoa has 18 beachfront bungalows, each approximately 70 m², in Superior and Deluxe categories.

All bungalows have air conditioning, ceiling fan, safe, kettle, private terrace and bathroom. Deluxe adds lagoon sunset orientation, terrace lounge, beach hammock, coffee machine and in-room Wi-Fi.
