Scuba diving in the Solomon Islands

The Solomon Islands combine remote coral reefs with one of the Pacific’s strongest concentrations of Second World War diving history. Our current land-based guides cover Munda, Uepi and Marovo Lagoon, and Gizo.

All three offer reef diving, but they feel different in practice: Munda is particularly strong for wrecks and history, Uepi for walls and current-fed reef systems, and Gizo for a mixed island-and-wreck programme.

How to choose a Solomon Islands dive region

• WWII wrecks and aircraft: Munda is the clearest first choice in our current portfolio.
• Walls, sharks and lagoon ecosystems: Uepi sits between Marovo Lagoon and open-ocean water, creating strong contrast between sheltered and current-facing sites.
• Reefs, wrecks and island hopping: Gizo works well for divers who want a broader Western Province stay rather than a single-purpose dive lodge.

When to dive the Solomon Islands

Diving is possible year-round. PADI currently describes the drier April-to-November period as generally offering calmer conditions, while warm water remains a constant through the year. Local rainfall and wind still vary, and the best site on any day should be chosen by the operator based on actual sea conditions.

Who are the Solomon Islands best for?

The destination particularly suits experienced dive travellers, underwater photographers and guests who value low-crowd reef systems. There are also easier lagoon and reef dives, but the remoteness and transfer structure make the country less suited to travellers who want highly flexible last-minute logistics.

Planning a Solomon Islands dive trip

Honiara is the main international gateway, followed by domestic flights or boat transfers into the Western Province and Marovo Lagoon. Build realistic connection margins into the trip and avoid scheduling an international departure too close to the final regional transfer. The remote geography is part of the appeal, but it needs to be planned deliberately.
